Cubans in the Keys
Wednesday | February 11, 2026
Doors Open 5 PM | Lecture Begins 6 PM
Just 90 miles apart, yet deeply intertwined—this engaging lecture explores the lasting connections between Cuba and the Florida Keys. Join Dr. Heather Gonyeau, Curator of Collections and Public History at the Florida Keys History & Discovery Center, for a lively look at the people, stories, and shared history that link these islands.
From cigar rollers in historic Key West to Cold War exiles and modern-day migrants, Cubans have played a vital role in shaping the culture, economy, and identity of the Keys. This lecture brings those stories to life through history, context, and community perspective.
Hosted at the Florida Keys History & Discovery Center, located on the Islander Resort property. A cash bar and light appetizers will be available. Tickets are $10 and complimentary for members.
