Derived Products from the Sea
Wednesday | January 28, 2026
Doors Open 5 PM | Lecture Begins 6 PM
Discover how the ocean’s smallest organisms are driving some of today’s most promising scientific breakthroughs. Join Dr. Kirstie Francis, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Mote Marine Laboratory, as she explores how microscopic marine organisms produce powerful natural compounds with real-world impact.
Dr. Francis’ research focuses on identifying substances that may help fight cancer, influence pathways linked to Alzheimer’s disease, and naturally control harmful algal blooms. Her work sheds light on remarkable “products from the sea” that could shape the future of both human and environmental health.
Hosted at the Florida Keys History & Discovery Center, located on the Islander Resort property. A cash bar and light appetizers will be available. Tickets are $10 and complimentary for members.
